I just made one of my casual, daily visits to the Drudge Report, only to learn that Hunter S. Thompson has killed himself this evening.

What kind of cowardly bullshit is this? Hunter S. Thompson, the Gonzo kingpin, the man with cojones of steel, has killed himself? Killing yourself is something for pansy-ass rock stars and pathetic, confused teenagers. Why the hell did the man who had done so much, lived so much, just decide to kill himself? Just swallow the barrel of a gun and pull the trigger... Cowardly and pathetic, and much less than I'd expect from the herald of Gonzo. What could be more emasculating than to give up, to give in, and take your own life? Pathetic. I hope that Gonzo monument he planned for himself (see the bonus features on the Criterion Collection edition of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) never gets built. He's not deserving of it any more...
